On April 6, 2014, Luis Franco, Director of Hispanic Outreach at Texas A&M Commerce and TLF alumns, Alberto Romero, a freshman at UTA, Eduardo Moreno, a freshman at UT and Virginia Moreno, a junior at UTA, shared their ideas about adjusting to college life and things they wish they had known going into their freshman year.This was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the type of resources available to them on their college campus to help them develop their study skills and be successful in the college environment. We look forward to having other TLF alums taking a leadership role in our meetings.

On Sunday, February 9, local business professionals offered their advice and counsel to TLF students. After a panel discussion, the students had the opportunity to meet these business leaders and ask questions. Thank you to Byron Sanders, Dallas Education Foundation; Calvert Collins, Fox 4; Jay Fox, Baylor Medical Center; Diana Aguirre, Big Brothers Big Sisters; Christina Smith, Dallas Police Department; Bill Lowrey, Istation; and Ashley Pitts, George W. Bush Presidential Center for making this panel discussion a great success.
On Sunday, January 12, 2014, Michael Alcantar, Vice President of Corporate Banking, Charlie Bogan, Assistant Vice President, Private Banking and Teresa Montes, Vice President of Community Development made a great presentation to TLF students. They addressed the importance of opening a checking and savings account as well as the questions you need to ask when choosing a bank. The employment opportunities in the financial industry and the different pathways available for those positions were also part of the discussion.
