The Phoenix House Hill A. Feinberg Academy of Dallas is an innovative residential high school that combines substance abuse treatment with accredited Dallas Independent School District on-site education. On December 11, Howard Lindsay, Director at the Phoenix House, talked with TLF students about drug addiction and the long process of becoming addiction free. Two of the Phoenix House clients told their personal story of their introduction to drugs and how they ended up at The Phoenix House. Representatives from the DISD Police Department and the Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse were there as well and made presentations. Among other things, we learned that cheese heroin, while no longer making headlines, is still a major drug problem for young adults. We discussed the growing supply of synthetic drugs and the dangers they present. Hopefully, TLF students will continue their involvement in programs to increase substance abuse awareness.
